| April 13 to 17, 2005 - Oakland Strictly Sail |
Bamar was well represented at the Strictly Sail show in Oakland, California. As well as a dedicated booth in one of the big tents where a 15' working Roll-Gen model was demonstrated, the Roll-Gen was seen also as a "mini" demo unit on the Staaf Sails booth and also as a full size working unit on a J100 on the dock. The J100 unit was demonstrated frequently and draw a huge amount of attention. Seeing is believing, as they say, and we were often confronted by amazed show-goers who couldn't quite believe that they really had just seen a spinnaker being furled! Besides the Roll-Gen, the manual furlers and Electa-Furl also drew a great deal of attention and many favourable comments. |
| Feb 25, 2005 - Mirabella V visit |
Following the 2005 Miami Strictly Sail show, representatives of Bamar were invited aboard the largest sailing sloop in the world, Mirabella V, which was berthed for a brief visit in West Palm Beach, Florida. At 245 ft long and with a mast height of 300 ft, Mirabella V also represents the largest composite sailing vessel ever constructed. Bamar won the contract to engineer, construct and supply the massive headsail furlers for Mirabella V, and this visit was an opportunity to ensure the systems were operating as designed. After a tour of the luxuriously appointed cabins and entertaining areas, the team moved on to inspect the sail handling systems. The captain reported that he was very satisfied with the furlers, and that they have performed exceptionally well. The Bamar team consisted of Luciano Rienzo (President), Fabrizio Ciampi (Superyacht representative) and Rob Warren (North American representative) |
President of J/Boats, Inc., Jeff Johnstone, used a Roll-Gen on his J/100 around Newport RI last Summer, both for cruising and in the Tuesday night racing with his family as crew. Jeff is so impressed with the Roll-Gen that he insisted that the first boats in the new J/65 and J/124 lines be so equipped.
Hull No.1 of the J/65 was delivered to San Diego and was quickly commissioned for a shake down delivery to Hawaii. Reports are in that the boat was hit with a 35 kt squall the first night out with the big asymmetrical up, and the chute was shredded. The Roll-Gen apparently survived intact.
